Training Levels

Aberdeenshire uses the core competencies as set out in the National Framework for Child Protection Learning and Development in Scotland 2024, see diagram below. Within the Aberdeenshire Integrated Multi‑Agency Learning and Development Strategy 2023-2026 to provide a shared foundation for practice across all services working with children, young people and families. The competencies inform the design of multi‑agency learning and support supervision, workforce development and self‑evaluation. This approach promotes consistent, confident, trauma‑informed and rights‑based practice across Aberdeenshire.

Multi-Agency Training Programme

The Aberdeenshire Child Protection Committee delivers a rolling programme of multi-agency child protection training and regular webinars covering a range of child protection topics. This approach supports ongoing learning and ensures practitioners can access training throughout the year.

All sessions are available to book via the training calendar and are open to Aberdeenshire multi-agency professionals only. The programme is designed to support shared understanding, strengthen professional practice and promote effective multi agency working.

Evaluation & CPD

All CPC training is evaluated to ensure it is meeting the needs of practitioners and improving child protection practice. Evaluation takes place at multiple levels:

  • Reaction — participant feedback after training (satisfaction, confidence, relevance)
  • Learning — pre/post assessments where appropriate to measure knowledge gain
  • Transfer — follow-up evaluation to assess whether learning has been applied in practice
  • Impact — the CPC's Learning & Development Subgroup reviews training data to assess impact on practice

Evaluation findings feed into continuous improvement of the training programme and are reported in the CPC Annual Report.

Child protection training counts towards Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements for many professional registrations, including social work, nursing, teaching, and others.

Participants receive written confirmation of attendance for each event. For e-learning via ALDO, a certificate of completion is issued on successful completion of each module.

It is the responsibility of individual practitioners and their agencies to ensure they maintain up-to-date child protection training in line with their professional requirements.

If you are unable to attend a training event you have booked:

  • Please cancel your place as soon as possible to release it for someone on the waiting list
  • Cancellations should be made at least 5 working days before the event by emailing the CPC training team
  • Late cancellations (within 5 working days) may be reported to the delegate's manager
  • Non-attendance without notification will be recorded and may affect future bookings

If a course is full, you can be added to the waiting list. You will be contacted if a place becomes available.
