The Home Conditions Assessment Tool, available on the GIRFEC Aberdeenshire website, is a multi‑agency resource designed to support practitioners who carry out home visits as part of their role. The tool offers a structured approach to identifying, discussing, and addressing specific aspects of home conditions that may impact a child’s safety, wellbeing, and overall development.
This in person workshop will help practitioners deepen their understanding of how home conditions can affect children and will build confidence in recognising concerns early. Practitioners will learn how to apply the assessment tool in real‑world practice to support collaborative, informed and child‑centred decision‑making.
By the end of this session, attendees will:
Increase their awareness of the impact of poor home conditions on children
Strengthen their knowledge and confidence in recognising issues during home visits
Learn how to use the Home Conditions Assessment Tool effectively in practice
Understand how the tool supports multi‑agency working and meaningful engagement with families
This workshop is ideal for professionals across Children’s Services who undertake home visits or contribute to assessments and planning for children and families.
